Taking a cue from SS Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali’, which made filmmakers realize the actual potential of Telugu cinema, Young star heroes are setting a new benchmark at Telugu Box Office with each film. Superstar Mahesh Babu’s Spy thriller ‘SPYder’ and Young Tiger Jr. NTR’s Jai Lava Kusa’ are now eyeing to set new benchmarks. If reports are to be believed, ‘SPYder’ pre-release business has touched Rs 150 Cr, while close to Rs 110 Crore is riding on Jai Lava Kusa.
Tarak’s Jai Lava Kusa, directed by KS Ravindra alias Bobby and produced by Nandamuri Kalyan Ram under the banner of NTR Arts, is scheduled to hit the theaters on 21st Sepetmeber. The film starring Raashi Khanna, Nidea Thomas, Ronit Roy and Tamannah Bhatia, has the music by Devi Sri Prasad. Whereas Mahesh Babu’s Spyder, directed by AR Murugadoss is gearing up for grand release on 27th September. Rakul Preet Singh is playing the female lead whereas SJ Suryah will be seen essaying antagonist. The film has the music by Harris Jayaraj.
This is the fourth such instance both the stars are taking on each other. In the previous instances, Mahesh Babu is ahead with two victories. In 2003, Tarak’s Naaga, directed by Suresh Krissna and Mahesh Babu’s Okkadu, written, and directed by Gunasekhar have competed at the box office. Naaga was a big disaster while Okkadu was the career best hit of Mahesh Babu. In 2010, it was NTR’s Brindavanam and Mahesh’s Khaleja. Brindavanam emerged as NTR’s Career Best whereas Khaleja was dud at the box office. The last fight was in 2011, NTR’s Oosaravelli and Mahesh’s Dookudu. Dookudu emerged as the career best hit of Mahesh whereas Oosaravelli failed.
Mahesh is the undisputed king when it comes to collections for a Telugu film in foreign shores. It is a huge risk to bet so much, but Mahesh Babu and Tarak are coming up with promising films.
