Huma Qureshi who is attending the 71st Cannes Film Festival as a brand ambassador for a liquor brand, talks about the #MeToo movement, freedom of expression and the situation of women in India. Huma Qureshi said, “For many woman, it is very difficult to come out and speak about Sexual harassment. We are living in India. If a girl tries to speak out against the harassment, people started to give character certificate to that girl.”
Huma Qureshi further said, “If a woman is crying, wants to reveal something and asking for the help. People have no rights to comments on her character. In this situation, people have to help her and protect her and I think we need to protect our women and we need to protect our children.” Huma Qureshi added, “Sexual harassment is not only limited to the film business.”
Speaking about her own experience, Huma Qureshi said that as a woman, sexual advances not only come from those in the industry but from outside as well. Not just people from the business of the film industry, but the people across different professions and different strata.
Huma Qureshi is well known face for Bollywood audiences as she has been the part of several movies like Gangs of Wasseypur , Ek Thi Daayan, D-Day, Highway, X: Past Is Present, and Jolly LLB 2.
