On International Women’s Day, let’s take a look at exemplary women who managed to make a mark in South Indian Film Industry.
Sai Pallavi: Ever since she made her debut appearance on the big screen in 2015 in Premam, she has become the most sought-after woman actors down south. She made her debut in Telugu with Fidaa and won a unanimous appreciation from the critics and fans alike with her endearing performance. Later she delivered Natural Star Nani starrer MCA aka Middle Class Abbayi which was hit at the box office. This year the talented actress will be seen in Naga Shaurya starrer Karu/Kanam, Dhanush’s Maari 2, Sharwanand starrer Padi Padi Leche Manasu and Suriya’s NGK.
Anushka Shetty: Sweety aka Anushka Shetty had 3 big releases last year- Singam 3/Si3, Om Namo Venkatesaya, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. This year she delivered woman centric movie ‘Bhaagamathie’, which also turned out blockbuster at the box office. According to the latest buzz, she is being considered to play the female lead in the remake of ‘Naachiyaar’ in which Jyothika played the role of a ruthless cop.
Kajal Aggarwal: Kajal Aggarwal started 2017 with Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Khaidi No. 150, which was a big hit. It was followed by Rana Daggubati’s Nene Raju Nene Mantri, Thala Ajith Kumar’s Vivegam and Vishal’s Mersal. The beautiful and talented actress managed to leave a mark with her performance in Nene Raju Nene Mantri and Vivegam, despite these films largely being a hero-centric. This year she was seen in Nani’s production venture Awe and will be seen in Nandamuri Kalyanram starrer MLA (Manchi Lakshanalunna Abbai) and Queen remake.
Samantha: Samantha Ruth Prabhu who tied the knot with Akkineni Naga Chaitanya,the son of King Nagarjuna in October, was part of only two films in 2017. Interestingly, both in Raju Gari Gadhi 2 and Mersal, she played an extended cameo role. This year she is waiting for the release of Sukumar & Ram Charan’s Rangasthalam and Nag Ashwin’s Mahanati in which Keerthy Suresh is playing the titular role.
Shalini Pandey: Last year low-budget film Arjun Reddy starring Shalini Pandey and Vijay Deverakonda sprang a surprise that caused tremors in the Telugu film industry. Shalini’s performance as Preethi Shetty, a free-spirited and progressive girl that rebel against her conservative family for the sake of her love, had swept viewers of their feet. This year she will be seen in Mahanati, 100% Kadhal and Gorilla.
