Yesterday the AIADMK government had denied permission for M Karunanidhi, to be buried next to Annadurai, MG Ramachandran and Jayalalithaa at the iconic mausoleum complex, saying M Karunanidhi,  was not a sitting Chief Minister. Later, DMK had moved the Madras High Court on the issue and sought an urgent hearing.

After the hearing a plea over land for burial of M Karunanidhi, the Madras High Court granted the permission to build a memorial for the late DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi, behind the Anna Samadhi at  Marina beach. After hearing the verdict, Karunanidhi’s son and political heir MK Stalin broke down.

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived at Rajaji Hall in Chennai to pay last respects to DMK President Karunanidhi. He also met the family members of Karunanidhi and expressed his condolences.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Congress President Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Governor Justice (Retd) Sadhasivam, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, Chief Minister of Telangana Chandrashekhar Rao, Former Kerala CM Oommen Chandy, former Karnataka CM Veerappa Moily, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu will fly to Chennai to pay their respects to the DMK stalwart Karunanidhi.

Puducherry CM V Narayanasamy posted a picture paying floral tribute to late Tamil Nadu CM M Karunanidhi in the Union Territory, and tweeted, “Cabinet Colleagues pays floral tribute to former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Kalaignar Dr.M.Karunanidhi at Puducherry Assembly. As a mark of respect, Puducherry will observe seven days Mourning in the U.T.of Puducherry from 7th August 2018.”
