Virat Kohli nominated for the Khel Ratna Award

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) nominated Indian Test Skipper Virat Kohli  for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, the nation’s biggest sporting award and Ajinkya Rahane, is also in line for another honour, having been nominated for the Arjuna award.  Khel Ratna is regarded as the highest sporting honour in Indian and it is awarded to the outstanding performance for more than four years in the field of sports. Kohli was also named as the ‘Player of the Tournament’ at ICC Worlds T20.  In 2013, Kohli was honoured with Arjuna awards. Rajiv Khel Ratna carries citation and the cash award of Rs 7.5 Lakhs whereas Arjuna Award carries citation and Rs 5 lakh cash award. If Kohli is awarded this prestigious honour, he will become the third cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni to be bestowed with this honour.
