Telugu actress Mallidi Sri Reddy’s fight against casting couch in Tollywood has inspired many supporting actors and junior artistes to come out and speak against sexual exploitation they faced in the film industry. On Sunday a round table debate on ‘Sexual and financial exploitation of women in Telugu Film industry’ in the city where the actresses spoke against casting couch.
Jana Sena President and actor Power Star Pawan Kalyan who faced the ire of Sri Reddy for his remarks, asking her to fight in the court, not in the TV channels, also got a severe warning from other woman actors.
Speaking at a press meet, actress Apoorva advised everyone not to target anyone’s personal life. She said sorry for targeting Pawan Kalyan’s personal life and his marriages. The actress questioned, “Why are the big heroes of the industries not speaking in support of women? Will they only fight for women in reel-life?”
She alleged, “We are working in film industry due to lack of employment. No hero is coming in open to support us. Film industry shall positively come in support of this fight against casting couch,”
She also alleged that she had been denied roles in films even after giving in to their demands. The actress said, “In Tollywood, Telugu actors don’t get opportunities. They promise roles in films and sleep with us. And next day, they avoid us saying there are far away somewhere for some shoot.”
In response to Pawan Kalyan’s remarks, Transgender actor Sana Rathod said going to police stations has not helped them in the past.
Sri Reddy has asked the fellow character artists to stand on a single voice and suggested them to stay united. Reacting to actress Apoorva’s positive comments towards actor turned politician Pawan Kalyan, Sri Reddy said she may continue showing her faithfulness towards Pawan Kalyan being a fan and insisted that she should not force her or deviate her from the protest.
