An Indian (Hyderabad) engineer Kuchibhotla Srinivas, 32 years, was killed in a shooting in a Kansas City bar last year. US Navy veteran, who killed Srinivas Kuchibhotla, in a racially motivated hate crime has been sentenced to life in prison.
Johnson County District Court Judge J. Charles Droege sentenced Adam Purinton to life in prison for the first-degree murder of Kuchibhotla and 165 months imprisonment for each of the other two murder charges.
Kuchibhotla Srinivas was an Indian national who worked as an aviation systems engineer and programs manager at GPS maker Garmin.
Adam Purinto is accused of opening fire after using “racial slurs” and yelling “get out of my country.”
Kuchibhotla’s wife, Sunayana Dumala, did not attend Friday’s sentencing, but issued a statement through a spokesperson. She said, “Today’s sentencing in the case of my husband will not bring back my Srinu, but it sends a strong message that hate is never acceptable.”
