It is known news that film critic Mahesh Kathi has been banned from Hyderabad for 6months over allegations of “hurting religious sentiment” with his comments on Lord Ram and Sita. Two days after externing Mahesh Kathi from the city, on Wednesday the Hyderabad Police issued the same orders against Hindu spiritual leader and head of the Kakinada Sri Peetham, seer Swamy Paripoornananda. Now he can’t enter Hyderabad for the next six months, without prior permission from the police.

Swami Paripoornananda was put under house arrest at his Jubilee Hills residence under section 151 of the CrPC after he decided to lead ‘Dharmagraha Yatra’  from Boduppal to Yadadri against controversial remarks made by Kathi Mahesh for making ‘anti-Hindu’ statements.  According to the police, after the report of Swami Paripoornananda’s house arrest came out, a large number of followers and members of different Hindu organisations started to gather near his house.

Swami Paripoornananda, wanted to lead a 40-km march in protest against Kathi Mahesh, was not allowed to undertake the yatra and was instead placed under house arrest.

BJP leader GVL Narasimha Rao wrote on twitter, “Swami Paripoornananda put under house arrest for planning a 40 km Padayatra in Hyderabad to protest against the most obnoxious comments against Hindu dieties in the name of free speech. Strongly condemn KCR govt’s Nizam-like action to placate a votebank.”

The Hyderabad police had earlier faced criticism for taking action against critic Kathi Mahesh, who did not have any criminal background. Many also questioned the police on why no action was taken against the seer Swami Paripoornananda, who had made controversial statements several times in the past.
