Telugu IPS M Nageshwar Rao new interim CBI ChiefM Nageswara Rao, the Telugu person and an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1986 batch, has been appointed as the new director of CBI’s highest investigative agency. M Nageshwara Rao, a native of Mangapeta of Warangal district will take immediate responsibilities as the interim CBI chief.

He is presently working as Joint Director in the CBI. Following the allegations against CBI Director Alok Varma, the Narendra Modi government has appointed a new director in his place. The development comes a day after the high drama involving CBI director, Alok Verma and special director, Rakesh Asthana. The offices of both directors Alok Verma and Rakesh Asthana have been sealed and all officers working with the CBI director have been sent on leave.

Mannem Nageswara Rao belongs to 1986 IPS Odisha cadre. Earlier, he has worked as the additional director of police (railways), Odisha. Prior to be being appointed as the interim CBI chief, Rao held the position of joint director in CBI.

Mannem Nageswara Rao did his post graduation from the Osmania University, following which he did his research at the IIT Madras.

Mannem Nageswara Rao was also credited with effective anti-insurgency operations in Manipur. According to the report, he was the first officer in Odisha, who use DNA fingerprinting to solve a rape case.
