TJAC Chairman Kodandaram arrested

Sunday August 13th 2017

Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) chairman Prof. Kodandaram  was arrested along with his followers at Toopran toll plaza on Saturday. This was his second arrest in two days- he was arrested at Bhiknoor on Friday.

He was on his way as part of Amarveerula Spurti yatra. Later he was shifted to Koudipalli police station and dropped at his residence after two hours of high drama.

Prof. Kodandaram and JAC leaders were going to a town hall meeting in Nizamabad when he was arrested. Earlier, the Telangana Joint Action Committee was not given permission to take out a rally and hold a meeting.

On hearing the arrest news of Kodandaram, TJAC leaders gathered at Koudipalli police station demanding release of Kodandaram. There was mild tension in front of  police station.

During the media interaction, Kodandaram said, “This is misuse of police force who failed to give a legal answer to our detention. They simply said they received the orders from above. We have already informed the police that neither there would be any public meeting nor rally. Despite that, why did the police lock the town hall and arrest us?" He further said, “Are we terrorists? Why are the policemen following us? Are we really in democracy?”
