On Sunday, Kollywood Superstar Rajinikanth met a delegation of 16 farmers led by P. Ayyakannu at his Poes Garden residence in Chennai and assured them his support for their plea to interlink rivers.
During the media interaction Ayyakannu said, “Sixteen farmers met Rajini for his support to interlinking of rivers.” Recalling that Rajini had promised to donate Rs 1 Cr for river interlinking project, he said, "We asked him to handover his contribution to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rajinikanth has agreed for it. Rajini told us that he would take steps to facilitate interlinking rivers and proposed the idea that peninsular rivers like Mahanadi, Godavari, Palar, Krishna and Cauvery should be linked first.”
The farmers leader further said, “Rajinikanth assured support to farmers on all issues faced by them. In 2002, he had famously offered Rs 1 Cr towards interlinking Himalayan and Peninsular rivers after a fast on the Cauvery issue. “ The meeting of Rajini with farmers hints about Rajini’s entry in politics.
