Veteran actress Shyama passes away in Mumbai at 82

Veteran Bollywood actor Shyama who is known for her role in Guru Dutt's classic Aar Paar passed away 14th November at the age of 82.

Her birth name was Khurshid Akhtar, director Vijay Bhatt had given her the screen name ‘Shyama’. Shyama  was known for her roles in movies like Aar Paar, Barsaat Ki Raat, Sawan Bhadi, Milan and Sharada. In a more than four decades long career, Shyama acted in about 175 movies in a career spanning four decades. She won the Filmfare Award Best Supporting Actress award for her performance in Sharada. The cause of her death is yet to be known.

In 1953, she had married cinematographer Fali Mistry. Mistry had passed away in 1979. They were survived by two sons - Farooq and Rohin, and a daughter Shirrin. Her funeral was held at  Mumbai’s Marine Lines on Tuesday afternoon, which however, was reportedly not attended by any popular faces of the industry.
