The Political action thriller drama Karthavyam starring lady Amitabh- Vijayashanti, directed by Mohan Das, completed 30 years as the movie was released on 29th June 1990. The movie Karthavyam was a blockbuster and was subsequently dubbed into Tamil as Vyjayanthi IPS.  It was remade in Tamil as Bhavani: The Real Police and released in 2011.

For Mohan Das’ directorial venture, Vijayashanti won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her  wonderful performance.

The film Karthavyam was written by Paruchuri Brothers and is based on the  real life story of IPS Officer Kiran Bedi. Vijayashanti starrer was premiered at the 14th International Film Festival of India in the mainstream section. Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja played a cameo in this thriller drama. Apart from Vijayashanti, the movie also has Vinod Kumar, Nirmalamma, Meena Durairaj, Charan Raj, Uday Prakash, Atluri Pundarikakshaiah, Sai Kumar, Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao, Tatineni Rajeswari, Nutan Prasad, Narra Venkateswara Rao, Pavala Syamala, Babu Mohan and others in the supporting roles.

In this film Vijayashanti played the role of  an Assistant Superintendent of Police, a sincere cop who strived to confront a corrupt local leader and his son’s atrocities. Karthavyam is all about how she is committed to her duty and goes till any lengths to prove the villain’ son Chakravarthi guilty for an assault he committed on a girl and the hardships she faces in this mission.
