As reported by BCCI officials, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 will take place in India this year. Recently, an official has confirmed that the IPL 2022 will be held in India, but not in overseas.

The tournament was held in the United Arab Emirates for the last two years. The IPL 2021 had 29 games in India before its delay due to covid circumstances and the subsequent relocation to UAE. When the Covid cases were rising in April-May, the BCCI opined that the situation may be dangerous.
The BCCI kept South Africa as back-up options and when in December last year, the third wave was reaching its peak, it felt like, yet again the IPL would move out of India. But things have become convenient now, as almost all people across the world have been vaccinated with double dose , so that, the power of the Coronavirus inside the body has lessend.
UAE successfully organized the IPL for two years, across the venues in the country. The franchise owners left it to the BCCI as regards to the selection of venue this year, with an appeal that an ultimate decision before the auction would assist them plan their course of actions. The full auction will be held in Bangalore on February 12 and 13, the officials announced.
Following the addition of the Lucknow and Ahmedabad franchises, the IPL has two new teams this year, and total 74 matches will be held. The BCCI is yet to decide whether to choose Maharashtra as the sole venue or go back to normal. State associations get Rs 1 crore per game, shared 50-50 between the franchise and the board as hosting remuneration.
