Diarrheal diseases are mostly reported during the summer and the following rainy season. Drinking only clean water is the most important way to prevent diarrheal diseases.

Health department should be vigilant against water borne diseases. Waterborne  diseases such as diarrhoea, typhoid, jaundice A and C are more likely to spread during the rainy season. Therefore, it is important to drink only boiled water to prevent them.

Always keep water and food items covered. Keep well water free from contamination. Build a wall around the well. Chlorinate well water once every two weeks. Ensuring chlorination and purification operations at small and large drinking water pumping stations should be done as part of preventive measures.

Carry boiled water with you when going out. Do not eat food and drinks from roadside stalls that are open and prepared in unsanitary conditions. Avoid stale and contaminated food. Wash fruits and vegetables in clean water before eating or cooking them.

Keep the house and surroundings clean. Dispose of food waste and garbage properly. The vicinity of public taps and wells should be kept clean. If the symptoms are manifested, one should seek treatment immediately and should not self-medicate.

Special care should be taken to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases during the Covid period. Effective hand washing, which is important in the prevention of Covid-19, can also help prevent water-borne diseases.
