Covid Nasal/ intranasal Vaccine Update: The government has approved Bharat Biotech’ Covid 19 nasal vaccine. The vaccine will be used as a heterologous booster in the adults. intranasal COVID vaccine will be available first in private hospitals. The nasal Covid vaccine will also be included Covid-19 vaccination program from today and it will be available on the Cowin application.
Bharat Biotech’s intranasal Covid vaccine has been approved by the Union Health Ministry for inclusion in the vaccination programs a booster dose for those above eighteen years of age. The nasal vaccine named BBV154 received approval of the Drugs Controller General of India in the month of November for restricted use in an emergency situation for those above 18 as a heterologous booster dose. The approval for needle free vaccine comes amid a spurt in Covid cases in China and some other countries.
This vaccine has been formulated to allow intranasal delivery through the nasal drops. The nasal delivery system has been designed and developed to be the cost effective in low and middle income countries.
The reports are coming that the Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya will hold a virtual meeting with the State health ministers on Covid-19 situation and preparedness at 3 pm today.
