Big jolt to RRR: USA buyers demand money back

The movie business might undergo many changes post lockdown. The distributors will not come forward to buy theatrical rights for huge prices. The big-budget movies that are currently under production will be affected severely. The delay in the release of the movies is one aspect but the main worry for all the distributors is the coronavirus crisis. Distributors are feeling that they may not recover hefty amounts they had earlier agreed to pay to  SS Rajamouli’ directorial venture RRR starring Mega Power Star Ram Charan and Young Tiger Jr NTR.

SS Rajamouli is planning to resume the shoot of his upcoming directorial venture RRR very soon.  On the other side, the reports are coming that the distributors are demanding their advance amount back from the producer of RRR.

Nobody is sure when will be the normalcy is restored at the movie theaters. What is certain is that overseas business will not recover for another year. In this scenario, the distributors who gave the advance amount to various Telugu movies under production are now demanding their money back. Producer DVV Danayya is under pressure from the overseas distributor of RRR. The film RRR closed its overseas deal a year ago.

The overseas rights of Rajamouli’ RRR including the USA were sold off to a global distribution for Rs 60 plus Cr. The firm recently sold off USA rights to a distribution company and received about Rs 3 Cr as advance. When the agreement was made it was said that RRR would hit the theaters on 8th January 2021, which is not possible now. Citing the delay, the USA distributor is seeking their money back.
