On Instagram, Pandit Birju Maharaj‘s granddaughter Ragini Maharaj paid her homage to the Kathak Maestro few hours ago, by sharing his picture and wrote, “Krishna aur Shiv mein bhi hod hogi ki Brijshyam toh mere hai.” After Birju Maharaj’s death, Ragini said that he was undergoing treatment since one month. He experienced sudden breathlessness at around 12.15-12.30 am in the mid-night. After noticing his unconditional situation, they taken him to the hospital just within 10 minutes, but unfortunately he died on the spot.
Ragini explained that Pandit Birju Maharaj was always a passionate of gadgets, and he wanted to purchased them immediately after their arrival. Secondly, he preferred mechanic profession as he liked it, and saying that he would become a mechanic, if he was not a dancer.
Birju Maharaj was an exponent of the Kalka-Bindadin Gharana of Lucknow. He received India’s second highest civil honour, the Padma Vibhushan in 1986, being a dance Maestro.
