Biswabhushan Harichandan takes oath as Andhra Pradesh Governor

Today, the veteran leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former minister of Odisha, Biswabhusan Harichandan took oath as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh. Andhra Pradesh High Court’s Acting Chief Justice C Praveen Kumar administered the oath to the new Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan at a ceremony, which held at Raj Bhavan. He also received state honours welcome from Armed forces.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, his cabinet colleagues, legislators, Chief Secretary L V Subrahmanyam and senior officials also attended the oath ceremony of Biswabhusan Harichandan.

Biswabhusan Harichandan, 85, is the 2nd Governor and the 1st one to be appointed exclusively for the state after the bifurcation in June 2014. He hails from a family of freedom fighters in Odisha. Harichandan started his career as a lawyer in Odisha High Court in 1961 and he joined Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1971.

Biswabhusan Harichandan joined Bharitya Janatha Party in 1980 when it was founded and became the president of Odisha state. He has also held various other portfolios as minister in Odisha Cabinet. Harichandan also served in the BJP national executive.

ESL Narasimhan had been serving as Governor of undivided Andhra Pradesh since 2009 and then as Governor of both AP and Telangana since the bifurcation.
