
NIA is conducting raids in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala in connection with last year’s Coimbatore and Mangaluru blast cases. The sources revealed that the raids are being carried out at 60 locations in residences and other establishments of suspected sympathisers of Islamic State in 3 Southern states including Kodungaiyur in Tamil Nadu and Mannadi in Kerala.
Coimbatore car explosion- It is known that last year in the month of October, Jamesha Mubeen, a suspected terrorist, was killed in Coimbatore car explosion case he was travelling in exploded in front of Kottai Eswaran Temple at Kottaimedu in communally sensitive Ukkdam area. Police had said Jamesha Mubeen’s intention was to set off the blast at the heart of the city. However, he backed off after seeing a checkpoint on his way. The police had found that Mubeen used a separate mobile application to communicate with his associates. Explosion that happened a day before Diwali festival was termed as ‘Lone wolf’ attack.
Mangaluru blast – Latest year in the month of November, Mohammed Shariq, was carrying a pressure cooker bomb inside the auto-rickshaw that exploded leading to injuries to driver and Shariq. Abdul Matheen Taha, Musabbir Hussain and Arafath Ali from Shivamogga, were the suspects in the case. Both Taha and Hussain are absconding since 2020.
