Brahmanandam undergoes heart surgery

Brahmanandam, an acclaimed actor and comedian, underwent a heart bypass surgery at the Asian Heart Institute in Mumbai, sources close to the family said here on Tuesday. He was rushed to the AHI Mumbai in a critical condition on Sunday after he complained of the breathlessness.

Brahmanandam was finally operated upon by renowned heart surgeon Ramakanta Panda on Monday. His condition is stable now and he will remain in hospital for a week. He is under observation now.

Brahmanandam, 62, was accompanied by his sons Raja Gautam and Siddharth to the hospital for the surgery.

The comedian married Lakshmi and has two sons, Raja Gautam and Siddarth, with her. He became a grandfather in 2017 with the birth of Raja Gautam’s son.

Brahmanandam was recently seen playing the role of  Relangi in  Nandamuri Balakrishna and Vidya Balan starrer NTR Kathanayakudu. He has acted in more than 1000 movies. He is most celebrated comedian in South India.

He was honoured with the Padma Shri, for his contribution to Indian cinema in 2009. He is regarded as one of the finest comic actors of India, noted particularly for his comic expressions.

Brahmanandam has been one of the most highly paid comedy actors in Indian Cinema. He has garnered five state Nandi Awards, one Filmfare Award South, six CineMAA Awards, and three South Indian International Movie Awards for the best comedy.
