Center has announced good news for the beneficiaries of the Ujjwala Yojana scheme. It has announced that the current subsidy on cooking gas cylinders will be extended for another year. It has been said that 12 cylinders can be obtained with subsidy in a year and this subsidy amount of Rs 200 will be directly deposited in the accounts of the beneficiaries. With this decision, 9.5 crore beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana scheme in the country will benefit. It said that extending the subsidy will put a burden of Rs 7,680 crore on the government.
Rs 200 subsidy will be provided on the maximum of twelve refills and total estimated expenditure on this count will be Rs 7,680 cr for the year 2023-24. The government said in a release after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, which approved this proposal.
In 2016, the central government introduced the Ujjwala Yojana scheme to provide free gas connection to women from poor families. Under this scheme, LPG connection has been provided to 9.5 crore women across the country. 12 cylinders are provided to them annually on subsidy. Public sector organizations Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited are providing this subsidy.
