Ritika Phogat, 17,who is the cousin of wrestlers Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat, decided to take the extreme step after she allegedly failed to win a wrestling bout. According to the latest update, wrestler Ritika Phogat committed suicide on 18th March. Ritika Phogat was playing the state level subjunior, junior women, and men wrestling tournament. She lost the final on 14th March by just 1 point.
Ritika Phogat hung herself to death after she lost a wrestling tournament in Bharatpur. It is being head that the wrestler was upset over losing to her rival by one point in the final bout of a championship. The championship was held in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, from 12th to 14th March.
Her post mortem was carried out in Civil Hospital in Dadri. Ritika had trained under Mahavir Singh Phogat. She was from Jaitpur village in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu. And she was undergoing training as a wrestler since 2015 at Mahavir Phogat Sports Academy in Haryana state.
She was staying with her uncle and Dronacharya awardee Mahavir Singh Phogat in Charkhi Dadri’s Balali village for the past four years.
Meanwhile, the Haryana Police have started their investigation into the death case of Ritika. Charkhi Dadri District Superintendent of Police Mr Ram Singh Bishnoi released a statement and said that loss in the tournament could be the reason for Ritika’ suicide.
