Deepika Padukone’s Padmaavat beats Anushka Shetty’s Bhaagamathie

On the occasion of Republic Day,  two woman centric movies Deepika Padukone starrer Padmaavat and  Baahubali & Arundhati fame Anushka Shetty starrer Bhaagamathie were released. Both  movies were highly anticipated – One because it was a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film and the other because it was Anushka Shetty’s first film after SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2:The Conclusion. Both the movies have taken the box office by storm and finally Padmaavat  that also features Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, has beaten the collection record of G. Ashok’s directorial venture Bhaagamathie at Chennai Box Office.  This news is confirmed by Trade Analyst Ramesh Bala. He wrote on the wall of Twitter, “#Chennai Box Office Top 5 for #Republicday2018 Weekend:

Padmaavat is a period drama based on the poem written by the 16th century poet Malik Muhammad. Deepika Padukone  played Rani Padmini, who commits jauhar as a way of protecting herself from Khilji.

On the otherside, Bhaagamathie is a modern day Suspense horror drama in which Anushka essayed the role of IAS Officer Chanchala and a yesteryear queen –Bhaamamathie.
