Director Gudapati Rajkumar who introduced megastar Chiranjeevi as hero with Punadhirallu in the Film Industry in 1979, has passed away today morning in Hyderabad due to old age related ailments. He was unwell for some time. When Megastar Chiranjeevi heard about the health condition of Gudapati Rajkumar , he admitted the director in Apollo Hospital. However, he breathed his last today. Megastar Chiranjeevi started his filmy career with Telugu movie Punadhirallu, however, his first released film was Pranam Khareedu.
Punadhirallu was not only the first movie of Chiranjeevi but also the first film for Rajkumar and he bagged five Nandi awards with this film.
Gudapati Rajkumar has two sons. His elder son died recently. After that, the direction wife also breathed her last. His financial condition was not good. As no one was there to take care of him, Rajkumar was living in a rented house in Hyderabad. He hails from Vuyyur which is about 30 kilometres from Vijayawada.
The youngest son of Gudapati Rajkumar is doing all the arrangements for the cremation at their native place.
