In consonance with preliminary research done by an Isreal hospital, a 4th dose of the coronavirus vaccination provides only limited defence against the Omicron variant that is spreading with it’s swiftness worldwide.
More than 270 frontline workers have received the fourth dose of Covid vaccine at Sheba Hospital last month. The government administered Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine to 154 people and Moderna’s fourth dose vaccine for 120 individuals.
Antibodies have been increased with the administration of both vaccines, slightly higher than after the administration of the third dose. However, the 4th vaccine only helpful for a partial defence against the virus inspite of increased antibody levels.
In the recent weeks in Isreal, 5,00,000 people have received the fourth dose, which is also called the second booster dose, as the preliminary results raised questions about Israel’s commitment to inflict a second booster dose. According to the data given by health experts, the vaccines which were more effective against previous variants, provides less protection against Omicron.
