Dr Dharavath Preethi, 26, the first-year postgraduate student of KMC in Telangana’s Warangal who allegedly attempted suicide on February 22 following harassment, was declared dead Sunday night by NIMS in Hyderabad where she was under treatment. Dr Preethi’ father has sought an inquiry by a high court judge into the matter and alleged her senior’s involvement in the death.
Her father Narendra alleged that his daughter Preethi was murdered. it was not a suicide attempt but a murder. He appealed to the police to investigate that someone had given an injunction to Preethi. He demanded to know the reasons behind Dr Preethi’s death. Postmortem reports were also not given to him.
Narendra demanded that the sitting judge conduct an inquiry into the incident only after the Kakatiya Medical College Anesthesia Department suspends t HVO. He said that only by doing that, the full details and facts about Preethi’s death will come out. It is alleged that there were five or six people were involved with Saif in the incident.
The news of Dr Preethi’s death led to a tension at the hospital. Some groups had gathered outside the hospital premises to demand that the State government provide ex gratia to her family.
Minister Errabelli Dayakar stood by the family of Dr Preethi who was the victim of ragging. Chief KCR has expressed his condolences to Preethi’s family and the victim’s family was given Rs. 10 lakh compensation.
Narendra told reporters that while the government announced a Rs 10 lakh compensation, the state Minister for Panchayat Raj E. Dayakar Rao promised Rs 20 lakhs compensation.
