 Today India will know who will succeed incumbent Ram Nath Kovind to become the country’s 15th President.  The counting of votes for the Presidential poll started on Thursday at Parliament House in New Delhi and it is likely to be concluded by evening. NDA’s Droupadi Murmu and Opposition’s Yashwant Sinha are pitted against each other in the race to the Rashtrapati Bhawan. If Droupadi Murmu is elected, she will be the first tribal woman to occupy the top constitutional post in  India. The new president will take oath on 25th July.

The first round of counting of the Presidential poll showed that Droupadi Murmu is far ahead of her counterpart Yashwant Sinha.

The number of votes in favor of Droupadi Murmu was 540 and for Yashwant Sinha it was 208 out of a total 748 valid votes.

After the 2nd round, where ballot papers of the first 10 states were alphabetically counted, the total valid votes 1138, and their total value 1,49,575.

Out of this, Droupadi Murmu gets 809 votes valued at 1,05,299 and Yashwant Sinha gets 329 votes valued at 44,276.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma  said that Droupadi Murmu is going to win by a huge margin and our country India is going to get its first ever tribal woman as its President.
