Gaddar on Thursday announced that he would contest the polls from Gajwel assembly constituency from where Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is seeking a reelection. During the media interaction, former Maoist ideologue and folk singer Gummadi Vittal Rao of Telangana, better known by his pen name “Gaddar” said that this would be the first time that he himself would actually be voting as he had registered himself as a voter.
In the month of October, revolutionary balladeer Gaddar met UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi at Delhi and announced his support to the party. Gaddar met Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi along with his son G Surya Kiran and wife Vimala.
It was rumoured that he was seeking a Congress ticket to congress ticket to contest poll. On the otherside, Gaddar said that he did not belong to any party. He added that he was ready to contest as an independent candidate against caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao from Gajwel Assembly constituency if all the Opposition parties support him. The folk singer balladeer Gaddar also pledged support to the Congress’s Save Constitution Movement.
In 1972, revolutionary balladeer Gaddar had co-founded the Jana Natya Mandali travelling theatre troupe that became the cultural wing of CPIML-People’s War, which later merged into the CPI Maoist. He went underground in 1980s.
