She is popular for special songs in Mirchi, Bhai, Atharintiki Daaredi and Ramayya Vasthavayya. Earlier in an interview, about the item songs, Hamsa Nandini has said, “I don’t have a problem doing special songs in movies because I’m not a mainstream heroine yet, and moreover if the movie lovers want to see more of me, I would happily oblige.”

Her birth name is Poonam, under which she appeared in her first few movies, but since there were too many people named Poonam in Tollywood, director Vamsy rechristened her Hamsa Nandini.
