India at Oscars 2022 : Namit Malhotra wins Best Visual Effects award for Dune

The science-fiction epic Dune won multiple trophies at the Academy Awards 2022. Among them was the Best Visual Effects Oscar. One of the companies behind the movie’ VFX’ is London based visual effects and the animation DNEG, whose CEO is Indian origin Namit Malhotra.

Namit Malhotra is the son of Bollywood film producer Naresh Malhotra and  he is the grandson of cinematographer MN Malhotra.

Namit started his professional career by starting a garage at Linking Road, Mumbai in  the year 1995. Later, in  the year 1997, he started his first VFX company,  Prime Focus. It was his father who suggested he start something using computer technology after which he made a modest start and later he  bagged his 1st international project in 2006-07.

Namit Malhotra is the chairman, and CEO of DNEG, a London-based VFX, and animation business. DNEG has received the Best Visual Effects category award at the Oscars 2022 for  the movie Dune, an American science-fiction picture  which has Timothée Chalamet, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgard, David Bautista, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Chang Chen, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem.

On the otherside, Indian are not happy as Dilip Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar were left out from the in-memorial section of the Oscars 2022/ 94th Academy Awards.
