Appointing Justice Ujjal Bhuyan as the Chief Justice of Telangana High Court, the Union government issued orders on Sunday. Bhuyan was appointed due to the transfer of current Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma as Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. Justice Bhuyan, senior-most judge in the Telangana High Court, where he was appointed in October 2011 and transferred to Bombay High Court in November 2019.

Justice Bhuyan is going to take oath in 2-3 days at Raj Bhavan and the oath of office will be administered by the Governor. A rule has existed that the chief minister of the state should be present in the oath taking ceremony of the Chief Justice. The Supreme Court collegium headed by Chief Justice N.V.Ramana had passed a resolution to the Union Government on May 17 for elevations of judges of different High Courts as Chief Justices and transfer of existing Chief Justices to other High Courts.

Recognition of the resolutions were postponed by the Union government. The president Ram Nath Kovind validated the approvals. Justice Satish Chandra Sharma assumed office of Chief Justice of Telangana High Court on November 11, last year.
