Sarika, the ex wife of versatile actor Kamal Haasan and the mother of Shruti Haasan and Akshara Haasan, is making her comeback with Modern Love: Mumbai after a gap of five years. Recently during the media interaction, she opened up on taking a break of five years in her career, revealing that initially, she wanted it to be only for a year.
The actress said that the break got extended due to Covid-19 pandemic during which she worked in theatres. She revealed that during the pandemic induced lockdown she ran out of money and working in theatres fetched her less than Rs 3,000 which she felt was insufficient. According to Sarika, during the lockdown, her financial status was worst.
Sarika added, “I thought I was wasting life in a way. You wake up every morning, and you go to sleep. So I just decided to take one year’s break and not do any work. But one year turned into five years.”
For five years, Sarika dabbled in theatre but soon she realized that theatre alone could not sustain her career. She claimed she had a lovely 5 years in the theatre, but that she had to return to higher paying occupations because an actor cannot live off of theatre alone.
Sarika’ first break came in the year 1986, when she and her former husband Kamal Haasan became parents to daughter Shruti Haasan. Later she returned in the mid-2000s with the movies like Bheja Fry, and Parzania.
