Taking a dig at the BJP led Centre for not clearing the Scheduled Tribes Reservation Bill passed by the Telangana Assembly 5 years ago, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasherkar Rao- KCR, announced on Saturday that reservations for Scheduled Tribes- ST have been increased from 6% to 10% and that the policy would be implemented in the next week.
KCR added that a government order (GO) implementing 10 % quota in the state for scheduled tribes would be issued soon. CM added that there is no ceiling of reservation in Constitution and neighbouring Tamil Nadu has been implementing quotas up to 69 %. The govt would implement Girijan Bandhu for landless Scheduled Tribes- ST community families soon by extending Rs 10 lakh each on par with the Dalit Bandhu, after giving ownership rights to the eligible tribals.
KCR added, “We are tired of requesting the Centre for reservations. Now within 1 week, we will issue a government order to implement 10 per cent reservation to STs in the state.”
If the govt implements 10% quota for the ST community from next week by issuing a GO, the total reservations will go up to 54 %. It will go up to 62 % if Centre approves enhanced quotas for STs and Muslims.
On Saturday, KCR also unveiled the statue of Kumaram Bheem.
