With lock down getting extended for the fourth time, there is a bit of panic among the film makers irrespective of the languages. Those who are awaiting for theatrical release are now looking for alternatives. The only alternative they have before hand is OTT release which will bring them out of financial trouble. Though this move corner out multiplexes and theaters it seems they have no option for the film makers. So they are looking for direct OTT releases. Though still biggies are backing out from this idea, other small movies are gearing up for direct OTT releases.
Yesterday we heard the news that Ayyushman Khurana and Amitabh Bachchan‘s Gulabo Sitabo is releasing on Amazon Prime very soon. Today Prime has declared many movies that are looking out for direct OTT releases. Jyothika’s Ponmagal Vandhaal is releasing on May 29th. Suriya is the producer for this movie.
Keerthy Suresh starrer Penguin which is a Telugu, Tamil bilingual will release on Prime on June 19th. Vidya Balan’s Shakuntala Devi is coming out on Prime very soon too. Apart from them, two Kannada movies Law, Frenchu Biryani are also having direct OTT releases. Malayalam movie Sufiyum Saujatayum starring Aditi Rao Hydari is too joining the list.
