A few months ago, the Andhra Pradesh government brought district reorganisation in the state, and the entire state has been divided into 26 districts totally. And now, we are going to discuss Konamseema district, which is one among them.

In recent times, the chief minister of the state YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has decided to rename Konaseema district after Dr B R Ambedkar district, as Ambedkar is the architect of Indian Constitution, notwithstanding the resistance from the locals. The decision was ratified by the chief minister today, following a report from the district officials.

After an approval from the Governor Biswabhushan Haricandan, a gazette notification would be issued later in the day. The state high court admitted as many as 12 different petitions for hearing against renaming of the Konaseema district as Dr B R Ambedkar district. The high court did not accept the same, as the petitioners asked for a stay on the government decision.

Fearing eruption of troubles in the district as per cabinet decision, the police made tight security arrangements in the whole Konaseema area. A section 144 has been in vogue in Amalapuram to curb any breakdown of law and order. The people who allegedly indulged in Amalapuram violence are arrested by the police. The arrested people are from different parties like Jana Sena, Telugu Desam Party and YSR Congress party.
