Latha Rajinikanth, the wife of Kollywood superstar Rajinikanth, will have to face trial in the cheating case. The case pertains to allegations that she failed to pay dues to the tune of Rs 6.20 Cr to advertising firm Ad Bureau.
On Tuesday i.e. 10th July, Supreme Court refused to quash the FIR filed against Latha Rajinikanth regarding the money borrowed for Kochadaiyaan starring Rajinikanth and Deepika Padukone, which was the directorial debut of her younger daughter Soundarya. The move comes after Ad Bureau, the lender, appealed in the Supreme Court to intervene.
On July 6, Soundarya Rajinikanth posted a statement on her Twitter page claiming that the SC judgement was misreported by the media houses.
Latha Rajinikanth, who is one of the director Mediaone Global Entertainment Limited, had taken a loan of Rs 14.90 Cr from Ad Bureau Advertising for the completion of the postproduction work of Kochadaiyaan, which was made on the budget of Rs 125 Cr. Out of the Rs 14.90 Cr borrowed, Rs 6.20 Cr remains to be repaid by Mediaone Global Entertainment Limited.
In February, Supreme Court had ordered Mediaone Global Entertainment Limited to repay the Rs 6.20 Cr to Ad Bureau within 3 months. Latha Rajanikanth assured the court that the dues will be cleared.
Latha Rajinikanth was pulled up by the Supreme Court last week for failing to repayment of Rs 6.20 Cr. Asking why the payment was not made, the court said, “If you don’t pay, then be ready to face trial.”
Kochadaiyaan, which was released in 2014, bombed in the box-office. The movie was made using ‘photorealistic capture technology’. It was promoted as “a tribute to the centennial of Indian cinema” and released worldwide in 3D. The movie was a huge failure at the box office because of the amateurish animation and graphics.
