Malayalam film Jallikattu has been finalized as India’s official entry for 93rd Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category. Every year, Indian movies are also sent in the best International film category and this year, the Malayalam film Jallikattu has been selected and it will be India’s official entry to the Oscars 2021. The movie Jallikattu was chosen out of 27 movies. The other films in the race to be India’s entry for Oscars 2021 were Gunjan Saxena, Bulbbul, Kaamyaab, The Disciple, Shakuntala Devi, Shikara, Chhapaak, AK vs AK, Gulabo Sitabo, Bhonsle, Chhalaang, Eeb Allay Ooo!, , Atkan Chatkan, Serious Men, Check Post The Sky is Pink, Chintu ka Birthday and Bittersweet.
The Malayalam movie Jallikattu based on the short story Maoist by Hareesh, is directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, has Chemban Vinod Jose, Antony Varghese, Sabumon Abdusamad and Santhy Balachandran.
Lijo Jose Pellissery’ Jallikattu was premiered in the month of September 2019 at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival.
Last year, Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy, produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Akhtar and Farhan Akhtar, starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, was India’s official entry to the Oscars, but this film did not get shortlisted for nominations.
The 2021 Academy Awards – Oscars will be held on 25th April instead of the usual second Sunday of February.
