Mallika Sherawat, who is popular for her bold avatar and has been the part of few hit movies like Murder and Pyaar Ke Side Effects, talked about her casting couch experience in her recent interview. She said, “I was thrown out of the projects for refusing to get imitates with her co-stars off-screen.” The actress added, “The actor used to said to me, ‘why can’t you be intimate with me? You can do it on the screen, what’s the problem in doing that with me in private?”
Mallika Sherawat added, “After acting in Murder in 2004, where I did bold Kissing scenes on the screen, the people including directors and co-stars thought that i would easily ‘compromise’. It made me insecure because I thought I had so much more to offer. I really suffered because of that. This image became a point for people to pass judgement on my character. ” She further said, “I have lost many projects in Hindi Film Industry.”
The 41-year-old actress Mallika Sherawat says, “I am a very headstrong woman, I have self respect, I can’t compromise. There were times when directors have called me and said come to me at 3 am. Earlier I was scared to talk about this topic casting couch because I thought that what the people will think about me. They will blame me. There are number of people in our society who have victim blaming mentality . So I always felt scared to talk about these things – Compromise, Casting couch and sexual harassment.”
Mallika Sherawat also recalled a national Television interview with a senior journalist who asked her “horrendous, overtly sexual questions” but no one came to rescue.
Mallika Sherawat, has been the part of several hit movies like Dirty Politics, Ugly Aur Pagli, Khwahish, and Kis Kis Ki Kismat.
