Mersal starring Vijay, Samantha Akkineni, Kajal Aggarwal, and Nithya Menen directed by Atlee, and produced by Thenandal Studios Limited, was one of the most successful films of last year at the box office. Now there is a good news for Vijay’s fans! Mersal has been declared Asias Best Cinema. Recently Mersal was screened at Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN), held at Bucheon.
The film’s producer Hema Rukmani of TSL, attended the film festival and was also part of the discussion session. She wrote on wall of her mircoblogging page, “Had some quality discussion about Asian cinema with the other panelists at the #BIFAN film festival, held at Bucheon and I’m very glad to share with you that #Mersal was chosen, screened, and appreciated under the ‘Best of Asian Cinema’ category. Mersal was released on 18th October 2017 and the film opened to positive reviews with critics praising the performance of Vijay, the cinematography work, A.R. Rahman’s soundtrack, the social message and Atlee’s direction, but criticized the cliché plot and excessive length. Mersal collected Rs 251 Cr (US$39.5 million) (gross) at Worldwide box office and became the fifth-highest grossing Tamil film and Vijay’s highest-grossing film in his career. Mersal is also the fifth highest grossing South Indian film of all time. On 25th January 2018, Mersal completed 100 day theatrical run.
Meanwhile Vijay is busy in his upcoming movies Sarkar, in the direction of AR Murugadoss, in which Keerthy Suresh is playing the female lead role.
