A mid-stage study has been commenced by the company Moderna Inc to attempt trials on booster dose of Covid-19 vaccine, just after the launch by Pfizer Inc for the same. While a third dose of its original Covid vaccine increased neutralizing antibodies against the variant at lower dose, the levels decreased 6 months after the administration of booster dose.
The Omicron variant spread with its swiftness and became prepotent across the world. But, it is less severe than the previous first and second waves. In the United States, the country recorded 99.9% covid cases so far. Moderna company conveyed that it would study its Omicron specific booster in the adults above 18 age groups.
Further, the company will test the booster in the persons who already administered with double-dose vaccine, which is the primary series of Moderna’s original vaccine, mRNA-1273. The company is also looking forward to register about three hundred participants in each of the 2 groups in the study.
According to a recent study from Israel, the 4th dose of an mRNA vaccine boosted antibodies, but it was not supported to control Omicron infection, as the country has already executed trials with these additional booster shots.
