Rajya Sabha member and MD of Mathrubhumi Group, MP Veerendra Kumar passed away on 28th May died at a private hospital in Kozhikode due to cardiac arrest. Veerendra Kumar was 84. He took his last breath at a private hospital in Kerala, Kozhikode. South actors like versatile actor Kamal Haasan, Mammootty, Malayalam star Mohanlal, Nivin Pauly, Prithviraj Sukumaran offered condolences on social media.

The funeral of Veerendra Kumar is expected to be held this evening at Kalpetta in Wayanad.
He was born at Kalpetta, now in Wayanad district, to MK Padmaprabha Goudar and Marudevi Avva. Veerendra Kumar had his early education at Kalpetta and Kozhikde before getting a Masters degree in Philosophy from Vivekananda College, Madras, and an MBA from Cincinnati University, Ohio, USA.
Veerendra Kumar had got a membership of Socialist Party from Jayaprakash Narayan and had been an all India treasurer of the Samyukta Socialist Party between 1968 and 1970. Later, Mr Kumar became part of the Janata Party and the Janata Dal.
