As Djokovic was not vaccinated against Covid-19, Australia booted him out. After, Djokovic landed in his native Serbia, ending his hopes of defending his Australian Open title. His well wishers have supported him and said, “You are our champion, Novak!” some waving national flags outside the Belgrade airport. He had won 9 Australian Open titles, including three in a row, and a total of 20 Grand Slam singles trophies.

Djokovic received a respectful welcome and a lot of his fans waving the Serbian flag honoured him at the airport. The plane carrying him, from his stopover in Dubai, UAE, touched down in the capital of Serbia, Belgrade.

He expressed again his feeling that he should be permitted to stay and participate because a recent coronavirus infection meant he was exempt from stern vaccination protocols. But the officials from Australia believed that his presence could stir up anti-vaccine sentiments, and thus, evicting him from the tournament could be safe for the team.

Djokovic’s attempt to get a medical exemption for not being vaccinated raised anger in Australia, because the country is stringent to avoid the Coronavirus infections by implementing very strict rules and regulations.
