Ramayanam, also known as Bala Ramayanam is a mythological film directed by Gunasekhar of Rudhramadevi fame and produced by M. S. Reddy. Based on the Hindu epic Ramayana, the film featured over 3000 child actors. Ramayanam starred Young Tiger Jr NTR and Smitha Madhav. Jr NTR played the role of Lord Rama whereas Smitha Madhav was seen in the role of Sita. Jr NTR completed 25 years in Telugu Film Industry as his classic Ramayanam directed by GunaSekhar marked 25th Anniversary. The movie was released on 11/04/1997 and bagged National awards. Ramayanam received National Film Award for Best Children’s Film in 1997 for presenting classical Indian epic in an entertaining narrative style with child actors playing all legendary characters with ease and nerve. Gunasekhar and producer MS Reddy were presented the award. All the children in this drama were only between the ages of 10 and 12.
Jr NTR starrer movie Bala Ramayanam deals with Rama and his retaliation against Ravana for the kidnap of Sita. The film Ramayanam had received positive response upon its release, raking in Rs 5 Cr in shares. The movie marked the entry of Jr NTR as a child artiste and since then, he is now known as the young tiger amongst his fans, making a name for himself in mainstream Telugu film Industry.
