The Oscars ceremony  was held on 25th April. The nominees for the best actor category were: Gary Oldman for ‘Mank’, Steven Yeun for ‘Minari‘, Chadwick Boseman for ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’, Anthony Hopkins for ‘The Father’ and Riz Ahmed for ‘Sound of Metal’. Anthony Hopkins was announced as ‘Oscar 2021 Best Actor’ at the 93rd Academy Awards/Oscar 2021. The award was given to Anthony Hopkins for his role in the movie ‘The Father’  and he became the oldest winner ever. With this Oscar win, at 83, Anthony Hopkins became the oldest actor ever to win an Academy Award.

This is the 2nd Oscar for Anthony Hopkins and comes nearly thirty years after his first in 1992, for playing Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs. Hopkins has been nominated 4 times since without a win.

Along with Anthony Hopkins’ win, the movie “The Father” also won best adapted screenplay, and it was also nominated for  the best picture, best supporting actress for Olivia Colman,  the best film editing and  the best production design.

Anthony Hopkins’  The father is directorial debut of Florian Zeller, who also won an Oscar for his adaptation of his own play with Christopher Hampton.

Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan, Bhanu Athaiya, Chadwick Boseman,  and others were honored in the in memorium segment.
