Oxford Dictionary considers ‘Goblin Mode’ as word of year 2022

Oxford Dictionaries announced that the word ‘Goblin Mode’ has been selected by an online vote as its word of the year. Goblin Mode is defined as a type of behaviour which is unapologetically self-indulgent, lazy, slovenly or greedy, typically in a way that rejects social norms or expectations.

With “Metaverse” coming in second with 4%, Goblin Mode received 93% of more than 3,40,000 votes cast. The voting for the Oxford Word of the Year took place between November 21 and December 2. Also, according to an American dictionary publisher Merriam Webster, the word “gaslighting” is selected as its Word of the Year 2022.
