It is known news that senior Congress leader P Chidambaram has been arrested by CBI in the INX Media case and now according to the latest update, on Thursday, the local court granted custody of P Chidambaram to the Central Bureau of Investigation for four days in a case of suspected corruption, rejecting the arguments by senior lawyers and Congress colleagues who sought his bail by stressing that personal liberty of their client was under the threat.
The judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar said, “Considering the facts and the circumstances as brought to the notice of the court, I am of the view that police custody remand of P Chidambaram, is justified and accordingly the accused is remanded to police custody till 26th August.”
The court has allowed the family members of Chidambaram and lawyers to meet him for half-an-hour every day during this period.
Nalini , the wife of P Chidambaram and son Karti Chidambaram, who is also being probed in the case, were present in the courtroom.
Central Bureau of Investigation has alleged that P Chidambaram abused his position as finance minister in the year 2007 to grant the INX Media Foreign Investment Promotion Board clearance for receiving overseas funds of Rs 305 cr.
