Pervez Musharraf is currently in Dubai. In 2016, when  he was asked to return to the country but refused due to health and security issues. He is facing treason charges for suspending the Constitution and imposing emergency rule in  the year 2007, a punishable offence for which he was indicted in 2014.

The special court had ordered Pervez Musharraf to record statement by 5th December in the treason case after the Islamabad High Court, after hearing the petitions filed by Musharraf and the Pakistan government, stopped the special court from issuing the verdict on 28th November.

A special court in Pakistan hearing the high treason case against former president General Pervez Musharraf sentenced him to death, a ruling that is seen as a major embarrassment to the army high command.  The court said it had analysed complaints, records, arguments and facts in the case for three months to arrive at the conclusion that Pervez Musharraf was guilty of high treason. With the death sentence, there are less chances of Pervez Musharraf returning to Pakistan.

Former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf, who is in self-imposed exile in Dubai,  had recorded the video message from his hospital bed in which he said he was ready to record his statement in this case. The former army chief Pervez Musharraf said, “A judicial commission can come here to hear me. It must see my health condition and make a decision.”
