Story: Sanjay (Naga Shaurya) and Anupama (Malvika Nair) are college mates in Visakhapatnam in 2000 and they are good friends. In 2004, they move to UK to pursue Masters and start a live-in relationship. Sanjay does not, however, visit her in the hospital when she is admitted due to illness. When Anu needs moral support, Sajay does not support her. So Anu breaks up with Sanjay. Will Sanjay and Anupama ever get back together? Why did Sanjay not go see her when she was in the hospital? To get these answers, one should watch the movie Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi on the silver screen.

Performance: Naga Shaurya’s performance is natural. His character’s various stages of growth are effectively conveyed through his changes in appearance. Malvika Nair essays her character’s emotional and lighthearted moments with equal ease. The chemistry between Naga Shaurya and Malavika looks decent on screen. The director, Srinivas Avasarala, appears in the second half. Rest of the cast of Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi are fine.
Technical: Srinivas Avasarala who is best known for sensible films, came up with Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi to entertain the movie lovers. PAPA is his third directorial after Oohalu Gusagusa Lade and Jyo Achyutananda. The movie is all about the 10 years journey of two college friends and their emotional ride. Though the director tried to make it a realistic film, but lost the narrative speed. The music, composed by Kalyani Mallik, and the background score are decent. The cinematography by Sunil Kumar Nama and the editing by Kiran Ganti are just ok. The first half has slow-paced story with simple moments between the leads and the second half has a couple of emotional moments.
Analysis: Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi is a simple but challenging to execute romantic comedy movie. Except for the lead actors, the rest of the casting is terrible. It works in parts.
