Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar passed away at the age of 92 due to a multi-organ failure in Mumbai today morning. She breathed her last at 8:12 am in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. She will be cremated at Shivaji Park with full state honors. Her mortal remains will be brought to Shivaji Park for public darshan by 4 pm. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to land in Mumbai at 4:15 pm and make his way to Shivaji Park to pay his last respects to the legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar.
The Indian government has announced 2 days of mourning from Sunday, during which the national flag would be flown at half mast throughout the country. Lata Mangeshkar will be given a state funeral. Her cremation would take place in Mumbai on Sunday evening.
India’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and wrote, “I am anguished beyond words. The kind and caring Lata Didi has left us. She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled. The coming generations will remember her as a stalwart of Indian culture, whose melodious voice had an unparalleled ability to mesmerize people.”
Rahul Gandhi tweeted that Lata Mangeshkar’s voice was “immortal” and would “continue to echo in the hearts of her fans”.
Several Bollywood stars also expressed their grief at this news.
